“We knew he was a good dog, but he needed confidence and guidance, and honestly, so did we.” That is how Charlie’s family described life before he came to Off Leash K9 Training Charlottesville. It is one of the most honest sentences we have read in a review, and it is where a lot of families start.
You can read Charlie’s full review on Google – his owner tells the whole story, start to finish.
Where Charlie Started
Walks had become stressful. Charlie is a strong dog, and he pulled so hard on the leash that his owner was hesitant to take him out at all. He also got so overstimulated that it was hard to simply pet him without him getting overly excited. And when he saw another dog, he let out high-pitched barking because he wanted to go play.
The Training Journey
Charlie spent two weeks with our trainer Tyla in the Board & Train program. Two weeks apart is not easy for any family, so every day they received a report card, videos of Charlie training, and candid photos of him having fun and growing more confident. His owner called that communication one of the favorite parts of the whole experience.
When Charlie came home, Tyla spent nearly two hours with the family. She walked them through each command, worked through some of Charlie’s tougher habits using their own leash, and answered every question they had. In his owner’s words: “She didn’t just train our dog. She trained us to be successful with him.”
Charlie’s Wins
Since coming home, Charlie has been happier, more responsive, and more confident. His family can enjoy petting him now. And when they ask him to heel, he walks exactly the way he was taught.
What It Changed for His Family
Walks no longer have to be a struggle. Just as important, his family is realistic about what keeps it that way: it still takes consistency on their part, and they have the foundation to do it. They came away with a calmer dog and the confidence to keep building on what he learned.
Why Charlie’s Story Matters
Leash pulling and overexcitement are two of the most common reasons families call us, and they wear people down slowly. Charlie’s story shows that a strong, excitable dog is usually a good dog who has not been shown what to do yet. It also shows why the go-home lesson matters as much as the two weeks before it. At Off Leash K9 Training Charlottesville, teaching the family is part of the job.
