Hobbes’ Story: An Anxious Hound Finally Learns to Relax

“We were at a breaking point.” That’s how Hobbes’ family described life with their 1.5-year-old hound before he came to Off Leash K9 Training Charlottesville. If you’ve lived with an anxious, reactive dog, you know exactly what that sentence means.

You can read Hobbes’ full review on Google – his owner went in a skeptic and came out a believer.

Where Hobbes Started

Hobbes was anxious and reactive both in the house and out in the world. Every noise, every stranger, every dog encounter set off barking and aggressive behavior. Basic commands went unheard. His family loved him – and was running out of ideas.

The Training Journey

Hobbes spent two weeks with our trainer Lauren in the Board & Train program. His family got daily updates and feedback the entire time, and they could see the care Lauren was investing. By pickup day, the bond was obvious: Hobbes clearly trusted her. Lauren then handed that progress over, teaching the family his new training regimen so the results would stick at home.

Hobbes’ Wins

Hobbes now responds to every command he was taught. He walks through the world without reacting to it. And maybe the biggest win of all: at home, he’s calm. A dog who lived on high alert can finally, in his family’s words, “seemingly finally relax.”

What It Changed for His Family

His owner was skeptical going in – and says plainly that it was worth every penny. The family came away with more than a changed dog: they have the tools and the confidence to maintain the results themselves.

Why Hobbes’ Story Matters

Reactivity is exhausting for dogs and people alike. Hobbes shows what two focused weeks can do when a dog gets structure, consistency, and a trainer who invests in the relationship – and what daily updates mean for a worried family back home. That transparency is a promise we make at Off Leash K9 Training Charlottesville.
